3 AI-powered health apps

In today's article, we will show 3 AI health applications that can greatly help medicine in treatments, disease identification and faster processes.

In medicine, AI is increasingly present.

It can assist with diagnostics, help with predictive medicine, develop medical robots, help with computer-assisted surgery, anticipate an epidemic, triage patients and develop treatments.

Check out the So, we separate the 3 health apps with AI.

1- AI in patient guidance

Now it is possible to list your symptoms in an encyclopedia that carries information on all diseases already catalogued.

Such technology is present at CHUM in Montreal, which uses it in triage in the emergency room.

The patient must input their symptoms into the computer, and the AI will classify their degree of urgency to be attended to.

This AI can even classify the nature of the patient's problem, such as cardiac, pulmonary and many others.

According to CHUM President and CEO Dr. Fabrice Brunet: "Currently, we are comparing this machine classification with the human classification."

"The machine saves time, but we want to make sure that this screening is done wisely and that it's of high quality, because it might work well for one type of patient but not for another."

“You never take it for granted that because something is new and innovative, it will be beneficial. We must continue to be critical. AI, like any innovation, must be evaluated and measured so that we can guarantee benefits”, declared.

2- AI in drug development

Nowadays, for a new medication to be released on the market, a lot of money and time is spent, basically a decade.

But in pandemic and epidemic situations, action needs to be faster.

Therefore, it is possible to reduce the time for the development of a medication, such as a vaccine, by optimizing pre-clinical research.

This is the objective of the start-up created by three doctoral students from Quebec, InVivo AI, which helps in the development of medicines.

Its creators used diverse knowledge for its creation, such as knowledge of computational neuroscience, molecular biology and machine learning, managing to speed up the research and development of drugs.

3- Ia in diagnostics

We have several medical tools, so to make a diagnosis, the doctor must consider a lot of data.

Thus, AI is very present in the interpretation of radiology and exam images.

Such as, for example, to detect some types of cancer that are more difficult to diagnose by tomography, such as lung and breast cancer.

The program is capable of identifying abnormalities in the body that cannot be seen with the naked eye, such as early tumors, helping a lot in the treatment.

Imagia, a Montreal start-up, can detect some types of cancer, as well as help accelerate clinical research, discover new treatments and develop personalized treatments.

Evidens, which uses Deep Radiomics algorithms, can produce biomarkers through digital images, which can measure pathological and normal processes within a therapeutic intervention.

It can detect whether there is any abnormality in the body and also monitor the evolution of a disease.

The program is even able to learn by itself, bringing to its memory the diseases and biological abnormalities that have already been discovered, which brings more accuracy in the diagnosis.

The company Diagnos, from Quebec, was able to develop a technology with AI that diagnoses diabetic retinopathy.

This is a condition arising from the complication of diabetes, which affects 50% people who have type 2, and is responsible for 5% causes of vision loss worldwide.

The technology uses a photo of the retina to identify the first signs of such a disease.

The photos are taken with special cameras, which take a few minutes to be ready, and can already be found in pharmacies, clinics and optometry centers.

AI technology has already managed to analyze almost 225,000 patients from 16 countries.

See your health through a selfie on your cell phone

In this article, see your health through a cell phone selfie with an app.

The Anura application, which was developed by the company NuraLogix, can show the user's health status through their selfie.

It scans the user's selfie, using artificial intelligence to find out if the user is healthy.

The app can tell if the user is at risk of developing diabetes and what their blood pressure is like in a 30-second scan.

Check out the app’s features and advantages:

  • It can check the user's health condition through their selfie;
  • It can be used on any device as long as it has a front camera;
  • It uses artificial intelligence technology, which is trained with data from more than 40 thousand people who have various health conditions;
  • The report generated by the application shows the user's health assessments, showing the risks of chronic conditions;
  • The app cannot be used to diagnose diseases, serving as an alert for the user to seek a doctor;
  • Anura, which is completely free, can be downloaded on Android and iOS systems.

The application was released at MWC 2023, where NuraLogix declared to BRG that Anura should not be used for diagnoses, but to raise awareness and guide the user to seek medical help.

Anura can be used on any device that has a front camera, a selfie camera, and the environment has enough light.

Therefore, the user must leave their face positioned within the circle shown on the screen, waiting 30 minutes for the scan to complete.

It uses a technology developed by NuraLogix, NuraLogix Transdermal Optical Imaging (TOI), which is like a new form of remote photoplethysmography (rPPG).

Simply put, the app can reflect light in some key areas of the user's face to collect information through their blood flow.

Then, the collected data is sent to the cloud, and artificial intelligence scans it, bringing the results.

The data collected from the user will not remain stored on NuraLogix company servers.

They are deleted shortly after the report with the result is generated.

But, if the user wants, they can access the scan history through the app.

The artificial intelligence that the application uses was trained using data from more than 40 thousand people who have various health conditions of various origins.

This technology has already been present in 10 revised research publications carried out by peer professionals, with three still in progress.

The company has 13 patents in the United States.

The app analyzes and shows the user the risks they have of developing or having chronic health conditions, such as mental health, cardiovascular diseases, type 2 diabetes and hypertension.

It can predict whether the app user's HbA1c is greater than 5.7% and whether their fasting blood glucose is greater than 5.5mmol/L.

As for blood pressure measurements, the app has an accuracy that corresponds to a standard deviation of error of less than 8mmHg.

How to use the application?

We emphasize again that, although its technology is interesting, the app should not be used for diagnosis, but for testing the user's health through their selfie.

The company NuraLogix is currently working to obtain certain approvals that allow it to sell its application to be used as a medical device and implemented in other products.

It is still working together with other companies that are interested in bringing the service to their employees.

This application should be used in combination with more smart devices that can monitor health.

Or it can be used as a way to more easily convince the user to go to the doctor more quickly than they otherwise would.

How to measure saturation by cell phone

Is available  at Google Play Store and App Store.

Binah
