Why is it important to have CURP for Mexican citizens?

CURP is very important for Mexican citizens as this is the only way in which the government identifies citizens, whether foreigners or natives, in the country.

This document is not just a code, it represents much more, being necessary for any and all legal action for citizens of Mexico, for services such as signing a contract, accessing banking services and the healthcare system.

In the CURP document, numbers and letters are found:

  • Contains an initial and the first internal vowel of the name;
  • Contains the initial of the middle name;
  • Contains the date of birth and the state of birth;
  • Contains sex;
  • Contains the first internal consonants of the first name, middle name and second name;
  • Contains a check digit;
  • Contains a homoclave.
