AN APPLICATION FOR MOBILE PHONES DETECTS GLUCOSA LEVELS

An innovative application for daily diabetes control is developed

Have you ever imagined being able to control your glucose levels without having to extract a single drop of blood from your body?

Well, this reality can arrive very quickly, through an application, for diabetes patients. So, a new way to control sugar levels on your palm.

A study carried out and presented at the last Congress of the American College of Cardiology, in New Orleans, United States, yielded positive results.

At first, the intention of the application is to indirectly detect glucose in blood. This way, you can avoid those dreaded finger pinches.

The application, originally developed to evaluate the heart rate of patients, is being tested by researchers at the University of California, also in the United States.

But, how does this application work?
The application checks the pulse when the user places the index finger under the flash light of the mobile camera. This way, it is possible to obtain the heart rate through the muñeca waves.

During the investigation, measurements of more than 54 thousand people were compared, which informed whether they had diabetes or no.

In this way, it was possible to detect an inequality in the shapes of pulse waves between people with and without this condition.

Therefore, the next step is to compare, in another group of patients, wave patterns with divergent levels of blood glucose and glycosylated hemoglobin.

Therefore, the main objective is to “train” this application so that it is capable of capturing different levels of glucose directly from the waves, thus being able to create a relationship between both metrics.

In the near future, this information crux will be able to inform diabetics about the value of glucose in their blood. All done in a practical and completely painless way, just by putting your finger on the mobile camera. A sweat, right? Let's hope and see.
