In this article, see your health through a selfie on your cell phone with an app.

The Anura application, which was developed by the company NuraLogix, can show the user's health status through their selfie.

It scans the user's selfie, using artificial intelligence to find out if the user is healthy.

The app is able to inform whether the user is at risk of developing diabetes and how their blood pressure is in a 30-second scan.

Check out the features and advantages of the app:

  • It manages to check the user's health condition by their selfie;
  • Can be used on any device as long as it has a front camera;
  • It uses artificial intelligence technology, which is trained with data from more than 40,000 people who have various health conditions;
  • The report generated by the application shows the user's health assessments, showing the risks of chronic conditions;
  • The app cannot be used to diagnose illnesses, serving as an alert for the user to seek a doctor;
  • Anura, which is completely free, can be downloaded on Android and iOS systems.

The application had its disclosure at MWC 2023, where NuraLogix declared to BRG that Anura should not be used for diagnoses, but to make the user aware and guide him to seek medical help.

Anura can be used on any device that has a front camera, a selfie camera, and the environment has enough light.

Thus, the user must leave his face positioned within the circle shown on the screen, wait 30 for the completion of the scan.

It uses a technology developed by NuraLogix, Transdermal Optical Imaging (TOI) by NuraLogix, which is like a new form of remote photoplethysmography (rPPG).

Simply put, the app is able to bounce light off a few key areas of the user's face to gather information via their blood flow.

Afterwards, the collected data is sent to the cloud, and the artificial intelligence scans it, bringing the results.

The data that was collected from the user will not remain stored on the servers of the NuraLogix company.

They are deleted right after the report with the result is generated.

But, if the user wants, he can access the history of the scans through the app.

The artificial intelligence that the app uses has received training through data from more than 40,000 people who have different health conditions from various sources.

This technology has already been present in 10 peer-reviewed research publications, with three still in progress.

The company has 13 US patents.

The app analyzes and shows the user the risks he has of developing or having chronic health conditions, such as mental health, cardiovascular disease, type 2 diabetes and hypertension.

It can predict whether the app user's HbA1c is greater than 5.7% and whether their fasting blood glucose is greater than 5.5mmol/L.

As for blood pressure measurements, the app has a precision that corresponds to the standard deviation of error of less than 8mmHg.

How to use the app?

We emphasize again that, although its technology is interesting, the app should not be used for diagnostics, but for a test of the user's health through his selfie.

The company NuraLogix is currently working to have certain approvals that allow it to sell its application to be used as a medical device and implanted in other products.

It is still working together with other companies that are interested in bringing the service to their employees.

This app should be used in combination with more smart devices that can monitor health.

Or it could be used as a way to more easily convince the user to go to the doctor faster than they would otherwise.
